We all get fat, old, and become a little more vulnerable to the young bucks knocking us off our high horse at some point in our lives but who’d have guessed it would ever happen to Suge. I mean, this dude is evil incarnate. Lots of rumours are floating around about who did it (Buster Douglas, Kimbo Slice, Harvey Weinstein, etc.) but we’ll never know because immediately after the altercation Suge’s perpetrator was taken for a “car ride”.
His work is a part of art history curriculum, he questioned everything, broke all the rules, drank like a fish, spoke with a heavy Southern drawl and ran with the likes of de Kooning, Jasper Johns, and Jackson Pollock. One of the most recognizable figures in 20th century postwar modernism died this past Monday at 82, and the art world is paying their respects. He pushed the limits of Abstract Expressionism, the cool guy art of the 1950s and helped develop the philosophy of pop art, conceptualism, and process art. Rauschenberg was first noticed for his “combine” art–the combination of paint and sculpture–but later moved into several different mediums and experimental styles. Maya Arulpragasam, better known to the world as M.I.A., is parlaying her musical success into her own clothing line. As reported to WWD, the line will reflect the Sri Lankan’s penchant for bright colors and equally strong prints, produced in the form of leggings, bomber jackets, and a complete T-shirt line. Again, pretty much what you’d expect to see, considering the artist’s very distinct and internationally flavored style.

Here’s a new “grass roots” politico-music video, featuring Kanye West’s friend and Sa-Ra frontman Taz Arnold, with production by none other than L.A.’s finest, Daedelus. Given the artists involved, you’d think we’d be in for an eclectic collabo treat — but sitting through this video, it’s hard watching without thinking, “Okay, this video might persuade the Venice Beach demographic to vote for Obama…”
But anybody else? We’re not so sure.
