Our Bangkok affiliate Denis (aka DJ Sum aka 2 Moist) hit me up this past week about a lil’ reggae ditty that seems hardcore cheese upon first listen (those keyboard stabs and guitar solos - whoosh!), but as he says, it grows on you, especially if you’ve been to Thailand…
“Hey man, thought you might be interested in this. I’ve been diggin around the local reggae scene and figuring out all the roots and origins and came up with this old dude from the south. This song here is massive now as reggae and ska are catching on here. This song in particular just caught on after 4-5 years of being only for the heads. You won’t understand obviously, but it’s about a girl who left this guy and and he’s moaning about how he didn’t care that she took all his shit when she left, but how could she take his Bob marley CD collection and bag of weed. When I first heard it I blew it off as a silly Thai song, but somehow it’s really grown on me. His album is really good too.”
Gotta love the random backpacker girls getting in on the video…rrrrrrright! Don’t let this quirky lil’ ditty fool you, 2Moist, as humble as he has always been, is quite the “play-on playa.” He’s a better DJ than you are, can eat more prawns than you at one sitting, interviewed N.O.W.’s DJ EASE for RE:UP #10, and he has been a talent booker/mgr for some key Thai clubs; has produced shows there with Ice-T, Jazzy Jeff, Haul & Mason, DJ Food, and the Rub Crew to name a few. Used to rep Q-bar, he’s now been at work for 808 Bangkok, which apparently has our #15 RE:UP Seattle release Party DJ Stretch Armstrong rocking it there on Aug 16th for a 600 baht (about $17 US) entry fee. “Doo doo doo doo te tham….” Sawasdee krap!
