Free Blood for Free

I bumped into Jason (DJ Spun) and Tommy Moye from Rong Music at the No Ordinary Monkey party this past Friday at Love. Usually, I deny any sort of hand outs, demos and any other type of promo items from people when I’m up in da’ club on my personal time. Not that I’m not interested in new music, but there’s a place, time and etiquette for sending RE:UP Magazine your promo material. Anywho, Tommy and Jason expressed how important this new release is of Free Blood’s. “These CD’s were printed in Japan, and we were only sent 50 of them,” they clamored. Fortunately, I was able to convince my girlfriend to lug this wonderfully packaged CD in her teeny purse as we perused a couple other parties around town. The following day I put in Free Blood’s The Singles, and must admit, I’m pretty impressed with what I’m hearing from the duo. They’ve been doing their thing the past few years in New York City. Some of you might know them as an off spring from the !!! / Out Hud family. I checked them out at PS1 a few weeks ago, and thought, they were “alright.” Apparently the backing band didn’t show up that day, so Madeline and John we left with a laptop and dualing mics (which isn’t new). Plus, I find DJs go over better at that venue for that dance crowd. This CD has restored my interest in Free Blood. 12 songs, includes a couple remixes in what seems like a very lengthy album (in a good way). Distributed in the US by DFA.
