Big Cover Up on EVR, Today (Wed.) at 4pm, DJ Ari guestin’…

The Big Cover Up happens every wednesday from 4-sex pm on east villahgio radio.  Its been happening and will continue to happen.  Its also happens (ok ok I’ll stop)…this week with have an esteemed guest that is a good definition of what the show is all about hokey pokey style.  Put your rare disco 12 in put your rare disco 12 out, in/out in/out, put it on your turntable and spin it all around, that’s what crate diggin’ is all about son.

Ari is not exactly a household name in both DJ-land or even the collectros.  He’s not a super star on soul strut, he hasn’t done a comp for BBE, he doesn’t even spin out all that much.  But the dude has serious, serious, serious heat.  He sells to a lot of heavyweight mofos.  Makes a living hustlin’ records, goes on buying road trips around the country, homeslice turns up incredibly stupid shit.

And that’s what its all about.  Mofos with knowledge.  Nice guy to boot, and a big Dollar Brand fan, a south african jazz pianist y’all should be up on (and Jean Grae’s father, fyi).

You host $mall $cheezy holds down the medium rare eclectric selections in between.

Will The Real Banksy Please Stand Up

After Gawker falsely identified the furtive artist back in May as Nick Walker, Britain’s Mail on Sunday followed up last month with a report that Banksy is actually 34-year-old Randall Gunningham of Bristol, England. The news broke a couple weeks ago, but confirmation it’s indeed the real Banksy and not another false ID on the artist is far from absolute. So don’t be surprised when come next month he’s revealed as someone else. It’s all part of what makes him so interesting, right? Here’s a nice piece on the matter over at Time magazine.

Free Blood for Free

I bumped into Jason (DJ Spun) and Tommy Moye from Rong Music at the No Ordinary Monkey party this past Friday at Love. Usually, I deny any sort of hand outs, demos and any other type of promo items from people when I’m up in da’ club on my personal time. Not that I’m not interested in new music, but there’s a place, time and etiquette for sending RE:UP Magazine your promo material. Anywho, Tommy and Jason expressed how important this new release is of Free Blood’s. “These CD’s were printed in Japan, and we were only sent 50 of them,” they clamored. Fortunately, I was able to Continue reading ‘Free Blood for Free’

bangkok doo doo

Our Bangkok affiliate Denis (aka DJ Sum aka 2 Moist) hit me up this past week about a lil’ reggae ditty that seems hardcore cheese upon first listen (those keyboard stabs and guitar solos - whoosh!), but as he says, it grows on you, especially if you’ve been to Thailand…

“Hey man, thought you might be interested in this. I’ve been diggin around the local reggae scene and figuring out all the roots and origins and came up with this old dude from the south. This song here is massive now as reggae and ska are catching on here. Continue reading ‘bangkok doo doo’

Louis Vuitton Flagship Store in Japan

Amsterdam-based UNStudio have released their proposed design for a Louis Vuitton flagship store in Japan.

The Dutch architects over at UNStudio are gettin’ crazy.

The design for the 10 story (54 meter tall) flagship Louis Vuitton store in Japan aims to establish an architectural equivalent of the identity of Louis Vuitton in which classical and modern qualities are blended, reinforcing each other. The design inspires the visitor with a feeling of being in the House of Louis Vuitton by celebrating the qualities that make up the essence of the company, its products, its history and its future.
